Christmas 1989
Dear Family and Friends,
This year, Lori and I decided to make our own Christmas cards. We wanted to write a verse that tells of the true meaning of Christmas. This is one of my favorite verses as it tells of Jesus’ love. Jesus, although He is God, lived on earth very humbly. Jesus’ birth was lowly. Jesus’ life was one of humble servanthood. Jesus’ death was one of sacrificial love. Jesus’ death was not in vain but was victorious―his death paid the full penalty for our sins―in fact anyone who puts their total trust in Jesus for their salvation. Therefore, when I think of Christmas, I also think of Jesus’ death and the hope I have through Jesus.
Christmas brings back many happy memories for both of us…thoughts of childhood, family, and friends. You are part of these happy memories. Thank you for the precious part you have played in our lives. Lori and I are beginning to build happy memories of our life together. Marriage has been very positive for us. Never before have we had to bend and change so much―learning to work together, pray together, communicate well, and support each other. We’re learning the true meaning of love and the work and sacrifice involved. Our ‘oneness’ is developing, and this is encouraging.
This has been a very busy year for us. Lori quit her full-time job last February, in favor of staying home as a homemaker, which she finds very fulfilling. Presently, she works part-time as Lakeside’s secretary, using her creative and organizational skills to add a fresh new touch to the church newsletter. She is actively serving on the Missions and Evangelism Committee, and now has just begun working with young children in Junior Church, which she greatly enjoys. It has been quite an adjustment for Lori to get used to her new church and make new friends at Lakeside. We appreciate Pastor Ken and the entire Lakeside family who have played such an important part in helping Lori feel welcome. Lori’s plans for the coming year include attending Moody Bible Institute part-time to get a greater grasp on God’s Word, the Bible. She also will find herself busy helping in both her sister Donna’s and her good friend Dianne’s weddings.
My life has been pretty busy also. I am currently working as a family physician in Orland Park (SW suburb of Chicago) for the last 1 ½ years. I enjoy my work, although it has gotten busier than I or my partner want. We have been looking for the past six months for another partner. It looks promising things will be better in March. Through work, I have encountered many physically, emotionally, and spiritually hurting people. God is helping me to help meet their physical needs, but also more recently, helping me to minister to their spiritual needs as well. I want to be a good witness through my work, words, and actions.
Since June 1989, I have been heading the Missions and Evangelism Committee at Lakeside, and recently was elected to be a deacon. I’m very thankful for our committee and they have been very supportive. We have a small but dedicated group. We’re excited to see some of the fruits of our labor this coming year.
This past year, Lori and I have enjoyed doing many things together―riding our all-terrain bikes on the many trails near our home, fishing, vacations, and Lori has taken a calligraphy class.
WE have much to be thankful for this past year. Thank you for the love each of you has shown us. We appreciate you! Merry Christmas and may “Christ dwell in your hearts through faith” (Eph. 3:17).
Warmly,
Rich and Lori
