Happy birthday, Dad! We had a delicious birthday breakfast. Mama made fried rice with Italian sausage, fruit salad with grapes, and bubbly orange juice. Stefanie made elephant-ear biscuits/cinnamon rolls. Everything tasted really good!
A few of us were finishing up Dad's birthday gifts and preparing food so it took a while to get out of the house. We started driving around noon and, after a quick stop at a gas station, arrived at the Dungeness Trailhead. We piled out of the car and Dad and Aaron strapped on their heavy backpacks. I don't think the packs were as heavy as they were last weekend, but they were still heavy, loaded with a massive birthday picnic.
The trail was about 1.5 miles long (one way) and wasn't too difficult. Some of hiked very quickly and others took a slower pace, taking lots of pictures (me). We arrived at the picnic spot a lot earlier than we expected which was nice. The Dungeness River was beautiful but very loud which made it slightly difficult to talk over lunch. Everything tasted fabulous! Beef and shrimp shish-kabobs, quinoa salad, fruit salad (with marshmallows) = yum!
We just got back around 8pm and are getting ready to open gifts. I think we might also watch a movie. It got too late to bake the rhubarb dessert so we are having homemade rice crispy treats tonight and will have the rhubarb tomorrow. Sounds good!
