Summer has been full. Well actually life in the Tanaka home has been full- very full. I used to say once we get done with this or that then things will slow down.  That was over 3 years ago- before Jonathan and I went to Cambodia.  I believe this is the "new-normal." I better get used to it.  This year began with some difficult news: our church of almost 8 years: Peninsula Household of Faith Community Church closed its doors. God provided a new church for us: Westside Baptist Church in Bremerton.  Our family became members on Easter Sunday- a day to celebrate our Risen Savior, Jesus Christ, but also our new home.  The church has warmly welcomed us and we being blessed by the Bible teaching of Pastor Craig Houston and the new friendships.  Amy and I went on a Medical Missions trip to Southeast Asia- January-February 2014. Jonathan came home for 3 weeks- packed with activities.  4th of July gathering of over 80 people was so much fun.

CELEBRATING DAD'S BIRTHDAY

Happy birthday, Dad! We had a delicious birthday breakfast. Mama made fried rice with Italian sausage, fruit salad with grapes, and bubbly orange juice. Stefanie made elephant-ear biscuits/cinnamon rolls. Everything tasted really good!

A few of us were finishing up Dad's birthday gifts and preparing food so it took a while to get out of the house. We started driving around noon and, after a quick stop at
a gas station, arrived at the Dungeness Trailhead. We piled out of the car and Dad and Aaron strapped on their heavy backpacks. I don't think the packs were as heavy as they were last weekend, but they were still heavy, loaded with
a massive birthday picnic.

The trail was about 1.5 miles long (one way) and wasn't
too difficult. Some of hiked very quickly and others took a slower pace, taking lots of pictures (me). We arrived at the picnic spot a lot earlier than we expected which was nice. The Dungeness River was beautiful but very loud which made it slightly difficult to talk over lunch. Everything tasted fabulous! Beef and shrimp shish-kabobs, quinoa salad, fruit salad (with marshmallows) = yum!

We just got back around 8pm and are getting ready to open gifts. I think we might also watch a movie. It got too late to bake the rhubarb dessert so we are having homemade rice crispy treats tonight and will have the rhubarb tomorrow. Sounds good!

CAMPING TANAKA-STYLE

It is super cold here at the campsite, especially in the morning! Once you thaw out, you feel fine, but that takes a while. Everyone started to stir around sunrise which was around 5:30am. Kind of early. Most of us girls didn't get up until 7:30.

Daddy made pancakes and bacon for breakfast -- yum! Aaron and Lily helped too. There were several "deep fat fried" pancakes that tasted really good. We also had some cantaloupe.

We got to Long Beach around 10 or 11am. The bike shop was already open which is a good thing. They must have upgraded their fleet of surreys because we got two nice surreys with no poke-y seats. Everyone took turns driving -- except me, for some reason -- and we didn't tip over this time.

After the surreys, we all rode go karts. I didn't want to ride, but I guess it was interesting. Aaron, Kristi, and Dad were the fast ones. Mama and I couldn't catch them. Then, we had to say goodbye to Mama.

We had sandwiches back at camp and then went to the beach. Aaron and I brought our new telescope which was very bulky and heavy. We climbed up a small cliff (about 20-30 feet) so that we could see the water clearly. We looked at buoys and ships and The Great Glopasaurus. We could even see the grass under Dad's feet!

We tried to find the moon this evening, but we couldn't for some reason. Next time, I guess. Chili for dinner.
